Order Wine Now!

Posted on May 30th, 2014 by newman

Thank you to everyone who came and supported our Wine and Cheese night last Friday (23rd May).

A good time was had by all and the Ladies provided a great spread of cheese and crackers, dips and other nibblies to compliment the fine wines.

If you haven’t yet placed an order now is the time to do so. The wine is exceptionally good value, and hopefully some of your team mates can vouch for the quality of the various wines on offer. Order form here.FRM 2014 NKHC Wine Order Blank

Match Reports 9/10/11 May 2014

J 3/4 Newman 1 v Modernians Sat 10 May 2014 8:30 AM  Perry Lakes Reserve Ground JD  (Round 2)

Final Score  1-0 Win

The juniors of the junior department of Newman Knights, ventured into the unknown lands of hockey in the back corner of the playing grounds. The team was all fighting and ready but there was no opposition….
Until 8:30 on the dot, and yes that would be AM. The boys and girls spread out into their positions for the start of the game, then the ball moved and a clump of blue was formed. It was only temporary as the Knights remembered to spread out and not to tackle each other (a clear game plan) and the super team took control of the game.
The second half began and the team was fired up and the ball barely entered our defensive half! The parents, (and coaches), on the sidelines were kept in an anxious mess as the ball went in and out, in and out of the attacking D through stunning team work and persistence. Then finally, Nic took control and ran the ball a good 20 metres or so into the D with the initial shot which was saved. Then every Knight got their swords to ensure the ball ended up in our goal and it sent to crowd crazy!
All in all a stellar effort by this bunch of younguns, every single person played their part and more importantly everyone had fun and left with a smile on their face. Great work juniors look forward to seeing more!

Provisional 1 Women v Hale – Sat 10 May 2014 7:00 PM – Hale Turf (Round 5)

Final Score  2-2 Draw

Come rain, Hale or shine – or in this case floodlights – the Knights were keen to continue their good form on Saturday night, on the newly laid Hale turf. Despite missing a couple of key elements, we went in with a strong squad confident of taking down another team in the competition. And as a single girl I must thank the fixtures for filling up my social calendar so well with these night games J.

It is difficult to know what to say about the game as it wasn’t memorable but it was by no means a bad performance, although many walked away fairly disappointed with the result – we probably should’ve won. It is a good sign thought that we have such belief in ourselves and expect more from what we delivered on Saturday. And by all accounts the results stemming from the amazing team cohesion this season could not be more welcome after the season just gone. It is definitely nice to watch the team at work from the back, as I’m sure it’s just as enjoyable to all the great supporters that were there Saturday night in the stands – thank you!

The ever versitle Mo (Tash), playing about her fifth position in as many games, provided excellent run up the wing; which was bookended nicely by the evergreen – just like her foot – Seagull. More importantly it was the central battery that held us together like glue – young Tomato (Mel), Fluffy (Suzi) and The Jeweller (Marg) getting together for what seemed like a constant attack at Hale. Black Widow (April) again held the fort well at the back and was as equally supported by a strong combination of HP Sauce (Heather), Jumbo Cumbo (Jen) and Jordy Shore (Giordi) – who looked like she was still recovering from an episode with Jwoww and Snooki.

We kept sneaking ahead in the game but to Hale’s credit they kept fighting back – almost scoring against the run of play – to hold us to a 2-all draw. I feel a tough few weeks coming up however if we hold strong together like we have this season I believe we will see good results come our way.

‘Til next week  xoxo  Roving Reporter

Metro 2 (Gold) Men v Victoria Park – Sat 10 May 2014 2:00 PM – Fletcher Park, 1 (Round 5)

Final Score  3-2 Loss

Our game was at Vic Park’s ground on Saturday at 2pm.  It was their club day, so Vic Park had early 12.30 games scheduled and were running cake stalls, fairy floss stands and a sausage sizzle which made for a festive atmosphere.
Our team arrived in dribs and drabs, and it was soon clear with 10 players we were not going to be able to field a full team and supply our own umpire.
A $50 offer to one of the young blokes in the bar soon found us an umpire, and thanks to Rob bringing down his willing 13 yo son Daniel we were able to field a team of 11 with no subs.
Vic Park scored with an early goal which by the end of a very hard fought 1st half, we were able to reply with 2 goals and go to the break leading 2-1.  Unfortunately the lack of subs (and fitness) caused us to run out of legs soon into the 2nd half and Vic Park were able to break away and score 2 goals to win the match 3-2.  It was a good hard game with minimal agro.
Well done to Daniel Reid for making some great contributions and even managing some action in the attacking D.
Hopefully we will be in better stead for our next meeting and be able to exact some revenge.  Brian (Keeper)

Drinks will be available from the bar at our extremely reasonable club prices and there will be a small entry charge of $5 per head to cover the costs.

This evening will also launch our fundraising Wine drive. For every case of wine sold the Club will receive $40, so we will be encouraging every team to promote this event.
